Illustra Cameras Show Video Loss after Server Reboot or exacqVision Server Service Restart

Description

Intermittently, Illustra cameras will show as “VIDEO LOSS” in the video panes after restarting the ExacqVision server service or rebooting the Exacq unit.  To restore normal operation, these Illustra cameras must have their “Enable” select box unchecked and then checked again in the “Add IP Cameras” configuration page.

Products

  • ExacqVision Server
  • Illustra cameras

Steps to Reproduce

The failure mode was intermittent and may require multiple restarts of the ExacqVision Server or just the Exacq server service in order to manifest on server software versions between (but not including) 21.12 and 22.09.

Expected Results

The expectation is that the Illustra camera video streams would be available for display on the ExacqVision clients.

 Actual Results

Occasionally, the Illustra camera video streams display as “VIDEO LOSS” panes on the ExacqVision clients.

 Solution

Downgrade to exacqVision Server version 21.12 or once available upgrade to exacqVision Server version 22.09 or higher.

CCure 2.80+ Reporting Excessive Video Loss Alerts from Exacq Servers

Description

Several customers have reported that exacqVision Servers are spamming the CCure Server with video loss alerts.

Product

  • exacqVision Server
  • CCure9000

Solution

Investigation of the exacqVision Servers show that no Video Loss events were logged.  The Journal View in CCure reports:

"Video Loss alert ended for exacqVision/HDVR Video Camera '%CameraName%' on exacqVision/HDVR Video Server '%ServerName%'"

In some cases, the alarms were reported for events that supposedly happened hours or days off from the time it was logged.

CCure Journal View

The Software House engineering team is currently investigating the issue and have provided a workaround, see their attached internal Knowledge Base Article for details.

To apply the workaround perform the following:

Put this file, AlarmExclusionConfig.xml, in the location “..\Program Files (x86)\Tyco\CrossFire\ServerComponents”

Restart the HDVR driver service

Note: Please remember to remove the file after an official SP with fix has been installed. A CCure update will not remove or overwrite the file in the folder.

Software House will update accordingly with an official fix via SP the moment they have clarity on this.

Arecont Camera Video Loss with Large Frame Sizes

Issue

Some cameras are capable of creating large frame sizes. There are two issues that can be encountered by unreasonably large frame sizes.

As frame size increases the likelihood of the exacqVision recorder throttling increases.

A frame size > 4MB will cause exacqVision to display “Acquiring Video” message instead of the actual video stream. This has been known to be an issue with certain Arecont Cameras which are capable of producing large frame sizes.

<br>

Resolution

To reduce frame sizes:

  1. Use H.264 encoding
  2. Reduce the image quality level
  3. Ensure lighting is adequate, (natural or IR)
  4. For Arecont Cameras check the following settings:
    • Increase the low-light noise filter from the default (50) to the maximum (100). This setting can be changed on the Image tab for a single-sensor camera, or the Settings window for panoramics. (http://{IPADDRESS}/set?spacialfilter=100 works for both types)
    • Change the exposure mode from the default (Balanced) to Quality. This setting can be changed in the same location as the low-light noise filter. (http://{IPADDRESS}/set?lowlight=quality for single-sensor cameras, or http://{IPADDRESS}/set{n}?lowlight=quality, where “{n}” is a setting from 1-4, for panoramics)
    • Turn on binning mode in night mode. This setting can be changed on the Image tab for a single-sensor camera, or the Settings window for panoramics.
