Event Linking

Event Linking gives you the power to create automated actions based on your selected events. Sending email notifications when motion is detected, activate an alarm output when an input trigger is detected, automatically export a video clip when a button connected to an input is pressed, turn a PTZ camera to a preset point if motion is detect on another camera, and much more… a wide variety of combinations can be achieved.

Configuring Views that Change Based on Events

Introduction

A useful feature of exacqVision Client is to automatically switch to a view that highlights an event in progress. This can be configured two slightly different ways in exacqVision Client:

 • If you want the view to change to an event and stay on that event until the operator acknowledges itor if you want the client to stay on that event for a specific number of seconds, configure Event Monitoring using a default view and the Event Monitoring List.
 • If you want the view to change to an event and stay on that event until the event endsand if all cameras are on the same server, configure Event Monitoring using Source Groups. (NOTE: All cameras must be on the same server for this type of automation because it depends on a Source Group event that runs on the server.)
Configuration Steps

Each of these methods are explained in the following sections.

Configuring Event Monitoring using a Default View and the Event Monitoring List

 1. Save the view that you want to display by default when no event is triggering.
 2. Save each view that you want to display full screen when a trigger is activated.
 3. Create a new Event Monitoring profile.
 4. Give the Profile a name.
 5. Select Show Event Monitor List.
 6. Change the type to View.
 7. Set first Client Action to Event Type Default.
 8. Set Action Type to Switch View.
 9. Set Action Target to your default view.
 10. Click Apply.

11. Click New to add a Client Action.

12. Select your Event Type.

13. Select your Event Source.

14. Set Action Type to Switch View.

15. Select the associated view to display when this trigger is activated.

16. Deselect Confirm and select a timeout period if you want the view to persist for a specific period of time. Alternatively, select Confirm if you want to force the operator to acknowledge the event before returning to the default view.

17. Repeat steps 11-16 for each trigger/view combination.

18. Click Apply.

19. On the Live page, click Views.

20. Double-click the new Event Monitor.

Now your Default view is displayed until a trigger is activated; at this time, the trigger’s associated view is displayed. You can resize and move the Event Monitor List if desired.
Configuring Event Monitoring using a Source Group

 1. In the Live view, save the view that you want to display by default when no event is triggering.
 2. Save each view that you want to display when a trigger is activated.
 3. Create a new Event Monitoring profile.
 4. Give the Profile a name.
 5. Change the type to View.

Create client actions for each event:

 1. Select an Event Type.
 2. Select an Event Source.
 3. Set Action Type as Switch View.
 4. Select the associated view to display when this trigger is activated.
 5. Select New and repeat these steps for each trigger/view combination.

Create the client action for the default view:

 1. On the Event Monitoring page, select New and select Source Group as the Event Type.
 2. Select the server that contains all the cameras and views in the system drop-down list.
 3. Click New.
 4. Name the group.
 5. Click New and select the appropriate event type.
 6. Select one of the cameras associated with the event.
 7. Select When Not Alarmed.
 8. Repeat these steps for each camera associated with an event.
 9. Click OK to finish creating the Source Group.
 10. Click Switch View as the Action Type.
 11. Select the default view created previously.
 12. Click Apply.

NOTE: There is a known issue with using Source Groups in Event Monitoring. For the Source Group to function, an Event Linking action using the same Source Group must be created on the server. See this article for additional information.

 1. On the Live page, click Views.
 2. Double-click the new Event Monitoring profile created previously.

Now your Default view is displayed until a trigger is activated; at that time, the trigger’s associated view is displayed until it ends or another event starts. The Event Monitoring list is not required to be open.

NOTE: When the initial view loads, no camera is displayed until the first event occurs. Then the view will switch to the event and then back to the default view.

Configure Event Linking to Include Video in Notifications Triggered by Non-Video Events

Description

Starting with exacqVision 5.10, you can configure email notifications to include a video clip or still image from one or more cameras even if the event does not directly involve video (that is, if the event is not video motion, video loss, IP camera connection, or analytics) using Source Groups to associate video to the event.

Product

 • exacqVision Server
 • exacqVision Client

Solution

The basic steps are:

 1. On the Event Linking age (Configuration > YOURSERVER > Configure System > Event Linking) click New
 2. In Event Type column select ‘Source Group’
 3. Below the Event Source column select New to open the Source Group Window
 4. Enter a name for the source group
 5. Tick ‘Any Source’ in the requires section
 6. Select New
 7. Select the Event Type of the trigger
 8. Select the Event Source of the trigger
 9. Select New
 10. For IP Cameras – select IP Camera Connection and the camera you would like to attach video from
 11. For Analog Cameras – select Video Loss and the input of the camera you want to attach video from
 12. Select the Action Type ‘Notify’
 13. Select the Action Target ‘Message Profile’
 14. Select Apply to save the changes and close the Source Group Window

Note: Make sure that the Attach Preview box is checked on the E-mail Message Profile being used.

WARNING: Because ‘Any Source’ must be used, and the source group includes a video loss or IP camera connection trigger a notification will be sent based on those events.

Pro Tip: Source groups can be scheduled on/off on the Schedule Page.

In this IP Cameras example when the Input Trigger – Driveway East Soft Trigger 1 goes into alarm an email will be sent along with a video clip from the Driveway East Camera using the “Gmail” E-mail Message Profile.

What is the limit on the number of Event Linking entries I can create?

There is no programmed limit to the number of Event Linking entries you can create.

However, if you set up more than 50 Event Linking entries, it is a good idea to deselect the Log checkboxes displayed to the left of the event listing. The log file can grow to an unstable size if you do not do this.

If you want to create more than 500 entries, please contact Exacq Technical Support for guidance.
