Systems built by Exacq utilize customized OS images for Windows and Ubuntu (Linux).
There may be instances where it is necessary to check the release version on an Exacq system. The release notes are contained within the operating system in a text file titled Release_Notes located on the root of the OS drive.
File path to OS release notes:
Windows – C:\Release_Notes.txt -or- C:\Release_Notes-Win10.txt Ubuntu (Linux) – /Release_Notes.txt
NOTE: This file contains release notes for the operating system only. Refer to the Support Portal for ExacqVision software release notes.
For customers that would like to migrate from their current operating system to Windows 10, we offer a purchasable upgrade kit. However you should first determine if the system is compatible / eligible for the upgrade.

Solution
Not every NVR can be upgraded to Windows 10, but it’s easy to check if an NVR will support Windows 10. Just enter the systems serial number on our compatibility webpage to confirm if the NVR can be upgraded.
Open Windows Update by right clicking the Start button in the lower-left corner and select search.
In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click either Windows Update or Check for updates
Click the Check for updates button and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer
If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, click the message to view and select the important updates to download or install
In the list, click the important updates for more information. Select the checkboxes for any updates that you want to install, and then click OK
Click Install updates
Note: Do not shut your computer off or allow it to run out of battery during the update process.
Doing so can cause a corruption of the operating system, which can often only be fixed by reformatting the computer.
The ExacqVision Official stance on Operating System Updates
apt update: Update is used to resynchronize the package index files from their sources on Ubuntu Linux via the Internet. apt upgrade: Upgrade is used to install the newest versions of all packages currently installed on the Ubuntu system.
To update software list for Ubuntu
First, open the Terminal application and type following two commands (Application > Accessories > Terminal or CTL-ALT-T).
The official stance of ExacqVision regarding security updates and auto-updates is they are off by default, because there is the potential risk of the NVR being rebooted during the update process which can stop video recording, so please plan accordingly!!!
ExacqVision cannot control the integrity of security patches or operating systems updates; therefore these off by default and leave it to the installation technician, IT staff or system owner to apply any updates or security patches to their ExacqVision Video Recorders.
LC’s with the ASRock H110M-ITX motherboard may show the video images freezing, followed by a freeze of the Operating System.
Workaround 1
Set VGA acceleration to none
Note that this also means GPU decoding is disabled
Workaround 2
Install 9.4 or higher client
Install libegl1-mesa
sudo apt-get install libegl1-mesa
This should already be included on systems with the latest 16.04 image with Exacqpacq installed.
Note that there is a memory leak in Intel’s EGL drivers and the client may run out of memory after running for extended periods of time. However, the system will not lock up. This is fixed in the Intel drivers included with 18.04.
Note that there may still be issues with Intel’s libva drivers for some CPU’s that may crash the client. However, the system will not lock up. If you experience this disable GPU decoding (VGA acceleration can remain on).
Workaround 3 (future release)
Install 9.6 or higher client
This client will be pre-installed with newer Intel libva drivers that will not crash. This new version will also be required for GPU decoding on 18.04.
Install libegl1-mesa
sudo apt-get install libegl1-mesa
Note that there is a memory leak in Intel’s EGL drivers and the client may run out of memory after running for extended periods of time. However, the system will not lock up. This is fixed in the Intel drivers included with 18.04.

Should I upgrade the operating system of my exacqVision recorder to the next major version?
Operating system vendors periodically release new major versions of their operating systems. A major version upgrade is generally identified as the first number of the version increasing (E.g. Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04), or the name of OS changing (E.g. Windows Vista to Windows 7).
New major OS versions often include changes that affect how applications, like exacqVision, run on the operating system. As a result there is a risk that exacqVision will not function correctly on a new major OS version when it releases. Furthermore, even if exacqVision does support the newest major version of the OS, upgrading an OS can result in application data loss or other migration issues.
Upgrading the operating system of your exacqVision recorder to the next major version may result in failure to record video or loss of previously recorded video and is not recommended.‘
Any user attempting to upgrade an exacqVision recorder to a new major version of the Windows or Ubuntu operating system assumes all risk of data loss and hardware issues, and must troubleshoot all related issues without the assistance of Exacq Technologies.
If you do upgrade the operating system to a new major version and experience issues, follow the recovery instructions that were included with the exacqVision recorder.
