Configure Event Linking to Include Video in Notifications Triggered by Non-Video Events

Description

Starting with exacqVision 5.10, you can configure email notifications to include a video clip or still image from one or more cameras even if the event does not directly involve video (that is, if the event is not video motion, video loss, IP camera connection, or analytics) using Source Groups to associate video to the event.

Product

  • exacqVision Server
  • exacqVision Client

Solution

The basic steps are:

  1. On the Event Linking age (Configuration > YOURSERVER > Configure System > Event Linking) click New
  2. In Event Type column select ‘Source Group’
  3. Below the Event Source column select New to open the Source Group Window
  4. Enter a name for the source group
  5. Tick ‘Any Source’ in the requires section
  6. Select New
  7. Select the Event Type of the trigger
  8. Select the Event Source of the trigger
  9. Select New
  10. For IP Cameras – select IP Camera Connection and the camera you would like to attach video from
  11. For Analog Cameras – select Video Loss and the input of the camera you want to attach video from
  12. Select the Action Type ‘Notify’
  13. Select the Action Target ‘Message Profile’
  14. Select Apply to save the changes and close the Source Group Window

Note: Make sure that the Attach Preview box is checked on the E-mail Message Profile being used.

WARNING: Because ‘Any Source’ must be used, and the source group includes a video loss or IP camera connection trigger a notification will be sent based on those events.

Pro Tip: Source groups can be scheduled on/off on the Schedule Page.

In this IP Cameras example when the Input Trigger – Driveway East Soft Trigger 1 goes into alarm an email will be sent along with a video clip from the Driveway East Camera using the “Gmail” E-mail Message Profile.

Configuring exacqVision to Send Text Message Notifications

exacqVision servers can send automated text messages through an e-mail gateway server as configured on the Notifications page. Message and data rates may apply depending on the carrier and contract.

To configure a text message notification, complete the following steps:

  1. Create a list of all phone numbers and their service providers that will be notified. For ported phones, you must know the current service provider, not the previous service provider.

2. Look up service providers’ SMS or MMS email-to-text service gateway address. A partial list of major carriers can be found below. If unlisted here, you may need to search online or contact your carrier.

3. Test your existing e-mail server connection by configuring an E-mail Server, creating a E-mail Message Profile, and configuring an event link to send a notification upon event. Refer to our User Training Videos or the exacqVision User Manual for more on configuring Notifications and Event Linking.

4. After confirming the existing e-mail server is operational, add a new E-mail Message Profile on the Notification page to send text messages.

5. Enter one or more text recipients in the destination To field, with a format of PhoneNumber@Provider. The example in the illustration below would send a text to an AT&T and Verizon text recipient.

6. Enter a Subject and a message of 140 characters or less.

Some providers will not display the Subject line in the received text message, but you must enter at least one character for the Subject anyway.

7. On the Event Linking page, configure one or more events to use the new Notification profile.

8. If necessary, create multiple notification profiles for multiple user groups or events.

Important Notes About exacqVision Enterprise Health Monitor Email Notifications

exacqVision Server

Each exacqVision Server notification profile has an optional Send Rate Limit setting. When an event link is triggered and a particular notification profile is sent, the notification profile does not send additional emails until the Send Rate Limit has elapsed. For example, both an IP Camera Connection event source and Video Loss event source might be configured in Event Linking to execute the same notification profile. However, if the Send Rate Limit is set to 60 seconds and the IP camera loses connection, the Video Loss Alarm email is discarded unless it occurs more than 60 seconds after the IP Camera Connection alarm.

Enterprise Health Monitor

If Enterprise Health Monitor detects any active, monitored events, an email containing a list of events is sent at regular intervals as configured on the Email tab under Options. The Max Events per Message option specifies the maximum number of active events that are listed in each e-mail. For example, if Max Events per Message is set to 20, and there are 25 active events, you will receive details on 20 of the 25 events. After the email has been sent, the email queue is reset and notifications are not sent for those ongoing active events. The system then begins monitoring for new active events to send notifications for.

Thus, if you receive an email for video loss on Camera 1, and the subsequent email also lists video loss on Camera 1, consider checking the event database for server disconnections or video recovery and subsequent loss that might have happened between the time the two emails were sent.

For video-related alarms (such as motion, video loss, or IP camera connection), alarms are ignored if the camera is disabled and they are omitted from email notifications. To enable a camera, select the Record Enable checkbox on the Camera Recording Setup page in exacqVision Client.
