Moving an existing IP Camera From One Plugin to Another

Title

Moving an existing IP Camera From One Plugin to Another in exacqVision

Description

Introduced  in exacqVision Client 19.12 we now have the ability to change an existing IP camera from one plugin to another, automatically locate and rename existing video files, ensuring that previously recorded video will be associated with the new plugin.

Product

  • exacqVision Client
  • exacqVision Server

Solution

Beginning with exacqVision Client version 19.12 existing cameras can be switched from one plugin to another.  When applied the camera is switched to the new plugin and existing video files located on any LOCAL disk including iSCSI will be automatically renamed.  This will ensure previously recorded video is associated with the new plugin and can be searched and played back normally.

Archived or Cloud Video

  • Video Files residing on archived drives or stored in the cloud are not renamed.
  • This could result in files named with the original plugin, that still exist on local drives, will be  renamed and if scheduled to archive, could result in duplicate video on the archive target,  some with the old filename and some with the new.
  • In certain cases, support may be able to assist in renaming archived or cloud video.  Please contact exacqVision Support (https://exacq.com/support/techsupport/) for information, make sure to reference this Knowledge Base Article and a utility called psChange.

The Device Type will remain grayed out until the following requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Client must be running on the NVR
  • Client must be launched with administrative privileges.
    • Windows – right-click on the exacqVision Client Icon and run as admin
    • Linux – launch edvrclient with “sudo”

WARNING

Certain plugins are listed with the OEM name, yet in the background are using the Onvif plugin.  That being the case you cannot convert from say Onvif to Bosch or Bosch to Samsung as they are all using the Onvif plugin already.
The list below is current as of 03/15/2022  but a current list can be generated easily using  the appropriate command

Windows – Powershell

Maps Item Icons Incorrect

Description

Customer would like to change some map icon graphics, some bullet cameras are displayed as domes on the map graphic. He has asked if there is a config file that contains the map graphic information

Product

  • exacqVision Client

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add a Camera to a new or existing map (Configuration > Maps)
  2. Make note of the Icon

Expected Results

Expected box camera Icon

Actual Results

PTZ/Dome camera Icon

Solution

This is expected behavior in the sense that the icon will follow whatever is detected by the camera plugin and will match the icon shown for the camera throughout the exacqVision Client.

As a possible workaround access the cameras settings page.  If there is a Mechanical PTZ tab present. then toggling the serial port from Off to IP will also change the icon from box to dome.

If you suspect that there is an issue in the way the cameras capabilities are being detected resulting in the wrong icon being used then.

  • verify the camera has been tested (Check https://www.exacq.com/integration/ipcams/)
  • escalate the case, an engineering ticket will need to be created so the correct icon type is detected for that specific camera model.

Multiple USB Folders Present When Exporting in exacqVision

Description

When exporting on a Linux based system to a USB key it has been observed that more than one folder for your device can be present.

Product

  • exacqVision Client

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Insert a USB Key
  2. Physically remove the USB Key
  3. Insert the USB Key again
  4. Search, mark and export video from within the exacqVision Client
  5. Navigate to the USB_KEY folder

Expected Results

  • A single folder labeled with the <name of your device> USB is available

Actual Results

  • Multiple folders labeled with the <name of your device> USB are available

Solution

  • This has resulted because the USB key has been physically removed without first using the unmount USB device icon in the exacqVision Client.
  • To proceed with the export simply choose the folder with the highest number.
  • To clear the list of orphaned USB device folders requires a reboot

Note: If you have multiple USB device folders and choose the wrong one to export the data, you will encounter an error similar to the following.
