How To Export/Import Client Settings File on a Client Computer

You may export your client settings for import on another client system. Importing client settings saves time in making manual changes to each client instance. Client settings include things such as systems listed on the ‘Add Systems’ page, joystick settings, theme settings.

Whether exporting or importing the client settings file, this is found in Configuration mode of the client. Select ‘Add Systems’ from the navigation panel on the left.

Choose the ‘Import/Export’ tab on the bottom-half of the page under the System List.

From this tab you may choose to Export your client settings to an INI file, which may then be imported from this same location on another client system.

If you have several users on the same client machine this file can also be imported into the client for each user. Client settings are saved “by user”. This means that even if two people are using the same machine, if they log into two different user accounts within Windows, Linux, or the Mac operating system they can have different client settings.

There is also an option for Automatic Import. This may be desirable to update the server list for multiple client machines automatically when you have several clients to administer and/or wish to update this list for your users as changes are made.

<br>

Options for Automatic Import include:

  • File on startup:  This is useful for environments with access to a shared folder on a system or network. You may place an exported INI file with your desired settings here and each time the client opens it will import the file and any changes that were made to it.
  • URL on startup:  Similar to the ‘File on startup’ option this may be useful for clients in a remote location to access your exported INI file made available on your web server.
  • Synchronize with ESM:  This option requires an Enterprise license and an ESM server and will update your client’s server list based on the systems listed in ESM.

Case Admin Unable to Create Bookmarks

Symptom:

A user account assigned to a custom user group/role with ‘Case Admin’ privileges, but without ‘User Admin’, ‘View Admin’, or ‘User View Admin’ privileges cannot create a bookmark.

<br>

Problem:

Introduced in exacqVision server 9.2, bookmarks fail to be created. This does not affect users assigned to built-in user groups/roles.

<br>

Solution:

Option 1:  If license subscription allows, update exacqVision Server to version 9.6 or higher.

Option 2:  If license subscription is expired, downgrade to exacqVision server version 9.0.

Arecont Video Shows Artifacts, Change Key Frame Interval

Symptom:

Video from an Arecont camera may display ghostly artifacts.

<br>

Problem:

Some Arecont cameras have the key frame interval, sometimes referred to as GOP, set to a high value.

If there is a not a setting available for this in the camera’s web interface the only way to change this is through the use of CGI commands.

<br>

Solution:

Open a web browser on the server.

Using the URL address field in the browser, enter each of the following commands replacing CAMERA_IP with the address of the camera.

http://CAMERA_IP/set?keyframe=”on”

http://CAMERA_IP/get?keyframeinterval

http://CAMERA_IP/set?keyframeinterval=(1-100)

For example, to change the interval to 10, enter: http://CAMERA_IP/set?keyframeinterval=10

Note: The lower the key frame interval, the more bandwidth will be required for the camera stream.

<br>

Problem:

The licensed network interface is not the primary NIC within the bond. The server software no longer recognizes the licensed MAC on the system.

<br>

Solution:

Option 1:  Upgrade to exacqVision Server 9.6 or later.

Option 2:  After updating, note the primary MAC address on the Network settings within the Client. Contact Orders for a license transfer to this MAC address.

How to Replace a SIIG SC-SA0R11-S1 HBA with an LSI 9300 HBA

Steps

Follow the steps below to replace your SIIG SC-SA0R11-S1 Host Bus Adapter card with the LSI 9300 Host bus adapter.

<br>

  1. Power down the system.
  2. Locate the host bus adapter. If your system is a Hybrid with an analog capture board, the host bus adapter is the one with the SATA cables between this card and hard drives in the front of the system.
  3. Loosen the hold-down from the cross-bar and move this out of the way.
  4. Remove the screw hold down from the back panel.
  5. Remove the SATA cables from the host bus adapter.
  6. Remove the host bus adapter from the motherboard.
  7. Remove removing the fan in the center chassis on this side of the system will make passing cables easier. To remove the fan, pull the thumb-tab out and then up.
  8. With the fan removed disconnect the SATA cables from the backs of the hard disks, then remove the cables from the system.
  9. Thread the SATA connectors from the Mini-SAS cable through the opening at the bottom of the fan divider in the middle of the chassis. These are numbered 1-4.
  10. Connect the SATA connectors to the back of each hard disk.
  11. Slide the fan back into the bracket and secure to the connector at the bottom of the chassis.
  12. Insert the new LSI 9300 host bus adapter into the expansion slot you removed the old board from and secure to the back panel with the screw you removed earlier.
  13. Connect the Mini-SAS connector to the board.

If you are using more than four hard drives in your system you may opt to leave the additional drives connected directly to the motherboard or use a second Mini-SAS to SATA cable to connect those to the host bus adapter card as well. It does not matter which Mini-SAS port on the LSI board you connect the cable to.

<br>

If you have a Ubuntu/Linux system you may power on the system and the drives should be recognized by the system and mounted as expected for use. The system may reboot itself during initialization of the new host bus adapter when powering on after replacement.

<br>

If you have a Windows system, additional steps below must be followed.

<br>

  1. Open the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Services.msc’. Open Services. Find ‘ExacqVision Server’ and stop this service.
  2. Open Device Manager. This will show an unknown ‘SAS Controller’ under ‘Other devices’.
  3. Download the driver for the LSI 9300 for your operating system. Windows 7 Drivers are listed under the Archive link for the Drivers section.
  4. Unpack the downloaded ZIP file to the Desktop to make it easy to find.
  5. In Device Manager, right-click on the ‘SAS Controller’ and select ‘Update Driver Software…’
  6. Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’. Use the file explorer to highlight the unpacked folder on your Desktop.
  7. Once the driver installs ‘Other devices’ appear. Be patient, after a few minutes the drives will be recognized and you should no longer have unrecognized devices in Device Manager.
  8. Rename the ‘psfpi.xml’ and ‘sysmgmtpi.xml’ files located in C:\Program Files\exacqVision\Server
  9. Restart the exacqVision Server service.

ESM May Not Connect to Web Service with Self-Signed Certificate

Symptom:

The camera video feed section in ESM displays an SSL error message.

<br>

Problem:

ESM may not connect to the exacqVision Web Service if the web service is using a self-signed certificate. This may be more prevalent on systems where TLS/SSL was configured after being added to ESM.

ESM did not automatically detect the scheme change and requires the user to manually configure the scheme.

<br>

Solution:

Upgrade ESM to version 5.8 or higher.

Use of Two-Step Authentication Email Services with exacqVision

What is two-step, or two-factor authentication?

Sometimes also called multi-factor authentication, this is a an additional layer of security. Instead of only requiring a username and password, multi-factor authentication requires an additional piece of information only that user should have access to. This may be a secondary passphrase, a key code sent by text message, an authentication app, or a physical token the user has.

<br>

Can I use multi-factor authentication with exacqVision for Notifications?

exacqVision does not currently support the use of anything other than a single-factor authentication, a username and password, to authenticate with your SMTP server for sending notifications. If you’ve enabled multi-factor authentication on your email server or web email account you may need to disable it to work properly. A second option may be to create single-use codes, but these may not be practical for your use as they can only be used once. It may be possible to configure some sort of gateway service to act as an intermediary between exacqVision and your SMTP server. Exacq does not provide support in configuring third-party services or your email services.
