Setup and Licensing exacqVision Edge/Edge+

Description

exacqVision Edge is a complete video management system (VMS) software solution that runs directly on an IP camera and stores video to an microSD/SD card inserted in the camera.

Supported Devices

Use the filters on the exacqVision IP Camera Integration database to search for devices that support exacqVision Edge.

Installers

Download the appropriate installer for your device. Installers are listed by device model on the Software Downloads page.

Upload

Devices will vary by manufacturer and firmware version. The steps for Illustra IQ cameras are depicted below.

  1. Log into the device through the web browser interface. Out-of-box or factory defaulted devices will likely require steps to choose basic device settings and configure the administrator user account and credentials. Refer to the device’s documentation for details.

2. Locate the application management page within the device. Pictured below, Illustra IQ devices feature an Applications page from within the Applications menu.

3. Select the installer file previously downloaded from Exacq.com to upload.

NOTE: Some cameras may not allow the application to upload until a microSD/SD card has been inserted, formated, and mounted.

4. Uploaded applications typically begin running automatically after uploading. If the application does not appear to be running, use the device controls to start the application.

5. The exacqVision Edge application is NOT licensed through the device itself. Disregard the License option within the camera’s web interface and proceed to the Licensing steps below.

Licensing

  1. If you have not already done so, download and install the exacqVision Client software on a workstation you intend to you for viewing and management of the Edge device.

2. Within the exacqVision Client, use the cog wheel icon to access the Configuration screen.

3. Navigate to the Add Systems page and add the Edge VMS using the IP address of the camera you installed the Edge application on as the server Hostname/IP Address. Rather than entering the credentials to log into the camera, the system credentials will still be default. Enter the following for intial setup:
    Username: admin
    Password: admin256

4. Upon initial connection with the default credentials the exacqVision software will prompt you to change the default credentials to those known only to you.

5. After changing the Edge Server credentials, you will see the exacqVision Server appear on your system tree to the left. Expand the server node and click to select the Configure System option.

6. Select the System tab from the top of the Configure System page.

7. Within the License section of this page, either manually enter the license key or use the Import button options to upload the license key to authorize your Edge application.

8. Navigate to the Add IP Cameras page and confirm the camera is now shown as connected in the IP Camera List. It is normal to see that the Address is 127.0.0.1 because the Edge application is running directly on the camera, thus it will display the local loopback address rather than the networked IP address of the camera.

exacqVision Illustra License Registration

Use the exacqVision Illustra License Registration tool to claim your complimentary exacqVision license for eligible Illustra cameras.

User Guides Documentation Illustra exacqVision Server Categories Products

Using the Illustra License Registration Tool

Overview

Users entitled to free IP camera licensing from eligible Illustra cameras may easily claim a new license key for their exacqVision system online, without the need to contact Orders.

NOTE: It is best practice to declare your eligible cameras and apply the generated license as a first step during NVR setup to prevent those devices which may be freely licensed from consuming your paid licenses. This will save you time performing additional steps.

Requirements

  • The NVR must be a system Built By Exacq (BBE), third party hardware with licensed exacqVision software is not eligible.
  • Cameras must be on the eligible camera list. See link within the tool.
  • The exacqVision Server license must have a current SSA.

Steps

  1. Access the Illustra License Registration page through the Dealer Portal or using the links within the exacqVision Client (24.03 and higher).

2. Enter the licensed MAC Address or system Serial Number.

3. The Current License field will update to display the number of paid and free Illustra licenses as well as the license level.

4. Beneath the MAC Address / Serial Number field, use the drop-down selector to enter the number of Illustra devices to add.
NOTE: Only eligible Illustra devices will work with the free licenses, so it is best to be accurate with the number of devices used. Additionally, inflating this number will incur additional costs when it comes time to renew the SSA for your system. The number of licenses charges for SSA renewal will be displayed on the right, below the New License section.

5. The New License section will appear below your Current License section. The New License fields indicate the total number of licenses for the system, broken down by paid and free Illustra licenses, along with the SSA expiration date.

6. Complete the fields for the Dealer information.

7. Enter the End User information for licensing.

8. Enter additional email addresses to send the soon to be generated license key to.

9. When you are ready, select the Declare Cameras button to generate the new license key.

10. Apply the new license to your exacqVision Server.

Performance Issues Caused by Disabling Metadata while Camera is Connected

Description

Disabling AI metadata within a camera while connected to the exacqVision Server application could lead to camera performance issues.

Product

Any IP Camera providing AI classification metadata.

While this was specifically seen and tested using Illustra devices it can be expected to occur with any camera providing metadata such as AI Object Classification.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Connect a camera providing AI Object Classification or LPR metadata to the exacqVision Server.
  2. While the device is connected and streaming, enter the camera web browser interface.
  3. Within the camera settings disable the metadata stream. For Illustra Pro Gen4 and Flex Gen4 cameras, this is done by unchecking the ‘Enable AI Object Classification‘ box on the AI Object Classification tab.

Expected Results

Users probably expect no visible change and for the camera to cease streaming metadata.

Actual Results

The camera may become sluggish to respond to commands or provides reduced video performance.

The exacqVision Server logs show repeated entries stating:

Network error 103 in metadata stream

Error code 103 is defined by the exacqVision plugin. The value ‘103’ could change when upgrading or downgrading the exacqVision Server software. The value is calculated as the last libcurl error + 2.

Solution

  1. Navigate to the Add IP Cameras page in the exacqVision Client software.
  2. In the IP Camera List, locate the camera.
  3. Uncheck the box in the Enabled column.
  4. Wait a few seconds, then check the Enabled box to re-enable the connection.
  5. In some cases this may not resolve the issue and the camera will need to be rebooted.

Illustra Multisensor Backwards Compatibility

Background

Over many years the number of Illustra camera related plugins had grown. An engineering effort was aimed at consolidating these to make selection of the appropriate plugin easier for users. exacqVision Server 24.03 represents a configuration shift which could affect users that attempt to downgrade the server application to versions earlier than 24.03. This could affect users of Illustra multisensor devices where noted in the article below.

Description

Fresh installations of exacqVision Server 24.03 and above will now leave the illustramulti plugin unchecked for installation at the Choose Components stage of the server software installation. This was previously the preferred selection from the Device Type menu when adding Illustra multisensor cameras when using exacqVision Server 22.06 through 23.09. The exception being the 4-Sensor IFS16-M10-BT03 Flex Multisensor, which uses the Onvif plugin.

Updates to existing installations which already had the illustramulti plugin installed will continue to provide this plugin and not be affected.

Changes to the illustra3 plugin in exacqVision Server 24.03 now permit this plugin to work with Illustra multisensor cameras.

When adding Illustra multisensor devices to exacqVision Server 24.03 and higher, users will now select the illustra3 plugin from the Device Type menu.

This change in Device Type means that users that have already added Illustra multisensor cameras using the illustra3 plugin cannot downgrade to earlier server versions without losing those cameras from their system configurations.

Product

exacqVision Server 22.06 through 23.09 | exacqVision Server 24.03 and later

exacqVision Server versions prior to 22.06 did not offer Illustra multisensor support.

Camera Models:

  • IPS20-M12-OIA4
  • IPS32-M13-OIA4
  • IPS20-M12-OTA4
  • IPS32-M13-OTA4
  • IPR20-M12-OIA4
  • IPR32-M13-OIA4
  • IFS16-M10-OIA4
  • IFS10-M10-OIA4
  • IFS10-M10-OTA4

Illustra IFS16-M10-BT03 not affected, this camera requires the Onvif Device Type.

Notes

  • It is recommended to backup the server configuration prior to upgrading to exacqVision Server 24.03 or higher.
  • If a multisensor device was added using illustra3 prior to updating to exacqVision Server 24.03, it must be removed prior to updating.
  • IMPORTANT: While exacqVision provides some support for changing the plugin of an existing IP camera since exacqVision Server/Client 19.12, there is NO official support for changing the plugin type in this use case, nor is migrating events supported. Users may change plugin types between illustramulti and illustra3 at their own risk.

Edge Server Application Stops Shortly After Starting on Illustra Cameras

Description

Users setting up the ExacqVision Edge or Edge+ application on Illustra cameras may see the application running and connect to it only to find it stops running shortly thereafter. This is likely due to changing the default ‘Enable Event Record’ setting on the camera.
Product

Cameras:

  • Illustra Pro Gen4 Cameras
  • Illustra Pro Gen3 Cameras

Edge Server

  • All versions
Steps to Reproduce

  1. Format and Mount the microSD card in the camera.

2. Check the ‘Enable Event Record’ box on the Record Settings tab.

3. Upload the Edge application. The application should start after uploading, but if it is stopped, start the application manually.
Expected Results

Edge Server runs without issue and client connections are maintained.
Actual Results

Shortly after the application starts, the client connections drop and Edge Server application on the device changes to a Stopped/Not Running status.
Solution

Uncheck the ‘Enable Event Record’ box on the Record Settings tab.

The default setting is unchecked/disabled. This box is used for local recording on the camera without an Edge Server application. When this is checked, the Edge application and camera software compete for control of the storage causing the Edge application to fail.
